Slum free India In Five Years:The Inside Story

If you are thinking, here we gonna talk about the possible sequel of "Slum Dog Millionaire" then sorry my friends you clicked on the wrong link.
While reading this post you are no more in the virtual world where we get the disclaimer" All characters appearing in this work are fictitious .Any resemblance to real persons ,living or dead ,is purely coincidental".

Our Government put forward Rajiv Awas Yojana, a scheme under which it will offer funds to state governments on condition that they give property rights to slum-dwellers in addition to developing infrastructure and civic services in slums. The scheme will focus on according property rights to slum dwellers and the urban poor with the help of the state government. The legal framework will cover the provision of security of tenure to the urban poor and also make land available for affordable housing. The scheme will provide basic amenities such as water supply, sewerage, drainage, internal and approach roads, street lighting and socia infrastructure facilities in slums and low income settlements.
A skill development programme for employment promotion for the urban poor is also on the 100-day agenda of the ministry.Focus will be on imparting quality training and skill certification through reputed institutions or skills training providers so that the urban poor youth will be enabled to enhance their income and improve their living conditions.

If all goes as planned then this housing scheme definitely gonna offer a ray of hope to slum dwellers and other urban poor to access a decent and dignified living environment and affordable home.
"target of constructing 10 lakh houses. provide central assistance of Rs 1.5 lakh for each family living in slums and lots more........"
Five years seems a small period for such a big project and when its in the hands of our "beloved government" then it becomes next to impossible. When politicians' visit to slum area during the election campaigns wasn't able to melt their hearts, how can a movie affect them so much.Their accepting such a humongous challenge, plants a seed of suspect.
Though "promises are made to be broken" is our government's favourite tag line.
OK lets have a look at some of the previous promises.Remember the Yojana launched in 2005 named as JNNURM(Jawahar Lal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission)wherein one of its major objectives say"Provision of basic services to the Urban poor including security of tenure at affordable prices, improved housing ,water supply and sanitation and ensuring delivery of other existing universal services of government for education, health and social security."

Till date no development is done on above.
Even If the all goes as per the plan the problems like
1) Urban poor won't be able to adjust in compact flat,
2 )Cant afford to pay maintenance charges for lifts etc,
3) Not eligible for home loans(Can't afford 4-5 lakhs,if they can they won't fall in low income group,
4)Even banks can't reduce the interest rates because they ensure no pay back guarantee.
So this way or that way, these projects end up into failure.
Its correctly said"If we won't learn from History,We are doomed to repeat it."
While planning for this new project our government is least concerned about these points of failure,So what can be the reason behind such a leniency?
My friends this is not leniency,to understand this we have to think as a member of this existing corruption net.

Firstly in order to collect funds Policies to be made at the expense of tax payers, since tax payers and voters are two different sections of the society and doing something (rather portraying) for the voters at the cost of non voters is a good deal for them.
Moreover the real intention is to help their class allies(industrialists).Real motive is to boost the consumption of cement and steel at Governments expenses and add to their heaping black money.
The hidden plans and motives are much more complex and bestial than we can think of.
We need to create an atmosphere for better future of India. We just have to realize our Power of FREEDOM OF SPEECH and lets pledge that we won't be afraid to use it.Our weapon - speech can only make the things better.
Lets show themthe passion we have about the causes.

  2. ya u r rt. Till date JNNURM has run half its course and its lacking in its mission and vision, Many of the project under JNNURM are not exit like JNNURM envisions a city development plan (CDP) followed by a detailed project report (DPR). But many of the claims made under CDP are not true ... for example: In Ajmer, Patna, there is a project that has been listed as having been completed. but the project did not exist. Similarly there are lots of project under JNNURM which are lacking in vision.

  3. what is happening nowadays is indeed a cause of dismay, every 5 years or so a new goverment comes, makes promises and then the tenure ends and promises are forgotten.......however what astonishes is that it took so many years and an oscar for them to realise the prevalent condition of slum dwellers in india....the article truly states that just providing flats and other luxuries wont be helpful at all to improve their condition...after all they are slum dwelleres, how do u expect them to maintain it when they dont even have enough funds to provide themselves proper meal for a day......what is needed is constant effort...slowly n steadily...providing employment to them, free education so that they can cope up with the new surroundings....lets not be in hurry..let them rise and not fall this time.....

  4. well no hidings from the fact that slum india is REAL India. Slums infact portray how india has moved on before and after independence
.wat goverment did in last 60 years, how people have grown, how people survived out poverty & improverishment, are sme question need to be given thought coz many goverment have come, many five years plan made, many promises made, many schemes started
, many taxes made & paid but the dream Slum free India in next five years still remains a Dream....
the fact is that goverment has made plans. during five year plans they have given money , have made revenues, have passed bills. money goes from goverment and is passed to cities, towns and villages via states. but then comes the sight of money making nd corruption.
the municipalities have been goven money from time to time, but that money been shown as progress on papers only. paper work is done very nicely where they have shown many reforms being done an goverment being happy that changes have started, but the matter of fact is fact is that the things have worsened out.
streets are cleaned but on paper only, sanitation improved but in news only. fact is roads have broken up and drainage system blocked. all trash remains dere intact smelling and spreading diseases.
people out in slums knows how hard is to survive when they have to fight everyday, everytime making ways how they can make for their two times food, how dere children eat. life out dere is completely diffrebt from what we see and think coz its only imagination for high soceity people while they sit in luxury
and have taste of all great menu continental , spanish nd all stuff while these remain dream and unheard for out people who dont even have a roof so that they can relax or woolen so that they can survive from cold. the nights of winter is a fight coz they cant wear strong and cover them from winds that blew all
nights. they cant shade then from summer sun that scorch out, make them thirsty. they dont have nythning to cover hme from rains that pour out their home coz then they are left wid no place as their home remains no more their home....
we cant criticize any goverment coz theeir nothing being done at the levels where the money is meant to send.plans have been made in past and in present. deres lot xpectation from goverment.lets hope this goverment does smething for Slum Free India. i wanna see...

  5. well it's quite true . corruption does exists , even a 10 yr old knows that corruption exists . it has its own profit and loss...i mean how many times you have benefitted youself by giving bribe when caught riding a bike without helmet? even though when you saved youself from trouble then also you became a part of this corruption . Its true that govn. has been careless in carrying out the plans which can definitely benifit the "new india" . In reallity only the politicians and the govn. not only make "india" we are the major part of this nation ; i feel somehow we can contribute to "new india" . try avoiding giving bribes , use the toll free no. to send the extra food left in a party at home to orphanage ... what i mean is that there are many small things that we can do to contribute as a citizen of "new india" .
Freedom of speech is one of such things . we are a part of a free nation , we are free to help india to evolve . what india needs is "efficient people who can use Freedon of speech as a tool " . during british rule leaders and revolutionists used newspapers to speak there minds ; as of now blogging should be considered as one these things.
I would heartly congratulate miss anushka for writing this blog.
